Maryam Nawaz Claims Imran Khan and his “coach” behind her Audio Leaks

PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz blamed PTI head Imran Khan and his “coach” for the latest tape leaks showing frank talks with key coalition government members.

Maryam admitted to reporters outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC) following her acquittal in the Avenfield matter that four of the video included her.

“I know who is behind all of this […] Imran and his coach are involved,” she stated, without going into any detail.

In response to the tape in which she allegedly ordered Prime Minister Shehbaz to halt the PTI’s Sehat Card scheme, Maryam claimed that the health project was initiated by PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif.

She said that she had worked hard on the health initiative, which was initiated by Nawaz Sharif.

“I requested the Prime Minister to take ownership of the program initiated by his party, and I never advocated to abandon the project,” she stated.

When asked if she thought the “establishment” was to blame for her conviction in the Avenfield case, Maryam immediately retorted, “Who was the beneficiary?”

“Imran realized that if Nawaz remained in the combat, he would not be able to rise to power,” she explained. She stated that the PTI head and his “coaches” will be “finished” soon.

In answer to another inquiry, Maryam stated that the audio leaks were the work of “Imran, his coach, and a number of TV networks.”

She also demanded the formation of a “high-powered” joint investigation team (JIT) comprised of government ministers, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) officials, and law ministry representatives to investigate Imran Khan and his then-principal secretary Azam Khan’s alleged audio leak.

“I feel the facts that have come to light should lead to his [Imran’s] arrest, and he should be imprisoned immediately,” she stated.

Maryam Nawaz Audio leak

Last week, a video purportedly of Prime Minister Shehbaz leaked in which he discussed with an anonymous official the idea of helping the import of Indian machinery for a power project involving his niece Maryam Nawaz’s son-in-law. On Sunday, more recordings involving Finance Minister Miftah Ismail and the resignations of PTI legislators from the National Assembly surfaced, which were posted on social media by many PTI officials.

The administration did not deny the substance of the leaked recordings, which appear to be informal audio leaks containing open talks between important officials in the PM Office rather than recorded phone conversations. Marriyum Aurangzeb, the Information Minister, argued that these just demonstrated that “nothing criminal had occurred.”

On Wednesday, the National Security Committee (NSC) met and established a group to examine the leaks, as well as decide to establish a “legal framework” for cyber security.

“The [NSC] meeting approved the creation of a high-powered committee to investigate the issue of audio leaks,” the Prime Minister’s Office announced following the high-level session attended by key ministries, service chiefs, and senior spy agency officials.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah will chair the committee.

The media release issued during the NSC meeting said nothing about whether an ongoing probe into the topic, which involves intelligence agencies, will be taken over by the new committee or continue in parallel.

The probe was launched shortly after audio leaks surfaced on social media a few days ago. Several PM House personnel have been questioned.

According to the PM Office, the NSC was briefed on the ongoing investigation.
