On Monday, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon launched TALAASH App, an information technology device at the Central Police Office. The aim to launch the device is to reduce street crimes in Karachi with modern equipment.
As we all know, no one is safe in Karachi these days. Whether we talk about homes, offices, streets, or any other place. Therefore, Sindh police have taken the initiative to improve policing in Karachi. During the launching ceremony of TALAASH, the provincial chief hoped it would become an “effective tool” against crimes. Moreover, IGP stated that TALAASH App would be used as an effective weapon against crimes and in taking actions against criminals.
Furthermore, he added that Sindh police are constantly trying to add modern technology to control crimes. The objective behind launching the App is to improve criminal investigation and elimination. Memon said that we have forme a committee to provide training to the investigators. Sindh Minister Murad Ali Shah has allocated funds for procuring “world-class technology” to upgrade policing.
The IGP stated that we would first roll out the device in Karachi. Later we will expand it to other districts “very soon”. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Information Technology, Parvez Ahmed Chandio, said that the device would help to reduce street crimes. He said that it would check the identities while patrolling. “This is a transportable technology as it is easy to carry,” added Chandio.
Chandio highlighted the device’s salient features. He said the device will have all necessary information from “National Database and Registration Authority, NADRA, and other institutions. However, the data of 1.5 million criminals are already available on this device. The device will help to verify suspects and identify unidentified bodies through fingerprints. TALAASH will be the ” game changer” in reducing crimes. The device can also trace Fake number plates and fake licenses.
“Talash is a moving online investigation center for checking police, raids, and combing operations”. Adding that there would be no need to bring “innocent” individuals to the police station and that the tool would assist in obtaining personal information by connecting it with Nadra and the records of all government offices.
Initially, we will provide 50 devices to different police stations as soon as we finish the training. “Talash devices will provide immense help to the police during inspections on roads and snap checking while the record of all criminal cases and cases pending before courts will also be linked with this device,” Chandio explained.
Talaash is a modern device that has all the data from mobile phone companies, hotels, and all registered domestic servants from Karachi. According to Director (IT) Tabasum Abbasi of the Sindh police, “suspect people can no longer hide their identification during inspection or a raid as police will check on the moment.” Absconders of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, can no longer hide in Karachi anymore.
